TREMONTON — Three people died in a rollover car crash early Monday morning in Box Elder County, officials say.
Box Elder Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Dale Ward said dispatch received a call at about 2 a.m. Monday, June 19, that a car had rolled into a canal on the west side of 6800 West near Tremonton.
The caller had found a woman sitting on the side of the road at 8300 N. 6800 West, Ward said. The woman told the caller and dispatch she was one of four people — two men and two women — in a red 1997 Nissan Pathfinder SUV that had rolled into the canal.
Ward said it appears the car was traveling northbound on 6800 West when it left the roadway. The driver then overcorrected, causing the car to roll into the canal.
All four occupants were ejected from the vehicle. Ward said it appears none of the occupants were wearing seat belts and alcohol was likely a factor in the crash.
The two men were found near the car, and the second woman was found about 1.25 miles downstream. All three died at the scene of the crash, Ward said.
The other woman was transported to Bear River Valley Hospital and later flown to McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden. Ward did not have any information on the severity of her injuries.
Police have not release the names of the victims pending notification of families. The crash is under investigation, Ward said.
