As we celebrate Father’s Day, it’s time to honor the dads, grandfathers and people who have been like fathers to us.

Of course, we should also honor them every day — after all, they’ve raised us, supported us and loved us at our best and our worst.

In honor of Father’s Day, we asked Standard-Examiner readers on Facebook to tell us why their dads are the best. Here’s what they had to say:

Note: Comments have been lightly edited for clarity.

Cassi Hicks: My father has been there through my WHOLE life. Even when he could have said "you're an adult now do it on your own," he NEVER has! He is the most unselfish person I have yet to meet besides his mama.

He has been there for me through thick and thin. Even when he doesn't agree with the choices I make. He is such an amazing person inside and out! Happy Father's Day to the best daddy and grandpa out there!

Sonia De La Torre: I'm blessed to have such and amazing father. He works so hard everyday to give my siblings and I the life that we need. He is such a caring, loving, patient father. He is by far the best man for our family.

Mary Ann Dietz: I've always been proud to be my dad's daughter. He was a chemist and then a supervisor at Thiokol (when it was Thiokol).

I went to work there, and random people would come see me just to see what demon spawn looked like. I would beam.

Or one of my other favorites: “You are just like your dad. You can tell you're lying because your lips are moving.”

He's smart, funny and a generous person who has plenty of challenges and still so helpful. You're the best, dad!

Stacy Chatterton: My girls say their Daddy works hard for our family, plays with them and makes them happy when they are sad.

Rori Lee: My dad is one of the best people out there! He is very hard worker and I don't think he ever stops!! If there is one thing he taught me best, it would be not give up. To try my hardest no matter what.

He pushes me to be the best me I can be, and he does it in the positive way. Happy Father’s Day to my dad Jeff Warren. You’re an amazing soul.

David Whitesides: Happy Father's Day to the jack of all trades. My dad has been so lovingly supportive with everyone and knows how to fix anything. Truly the best in the universe!

Baleigh Chapman: My best father figure is my uncle. Growing up, he taught me so much. He taught me about my family history, womanhood and cooking.

He was there for every bully, young broken hearts and any silly question I had. He always knew what to say and how to say it. I love him more than words can describe, and he was the best dad/uncle I could ever have.

Now he's watching over his grand niece, nephew and I. Some place happy and pain free. He'll forever be my Marine. Happy father's day, Abby. I love you forever!

Mandy Francis: There are no words to express the love I have for my dad. Although our time on earth was short, he taught me many things. His kids were his life and did everything for us!

He is the greatest person I have ever known. I think about him everyday. I love you, Dad!

Morgan Francis Rose: Lionel Cory Francis is the man who raised me as his own flesh and blood even though he had no obligation to do so. He was there for me from the day I was born until the day he passed away.

It takes a truly kind, amazing man to raise a child that isn't his “own.” He taught me what it meant to be a good person. I love and miss you everyday Dad.

Shannon Pickett My dad Hans Maass is my hero!! I appreciate his sense of humor, his faith in me and his teaching me to love the Duke & James Bond!! Love ya Dad!
